Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2000, Domaine Heresztyn

The 2000 vintage was regarded as a real flop by most media commentators. The usual story of insufficient sunshine in the summer and too much rain preceding the harvest. But we tasted this Gevrey vieilles vignes blind and found it a tremendous wine. Surprisingly full, black cherry flavours and ripe strawberry. Real breadth on the palate and potency more reminiscent of a ripe and tannic 2002. Quality wine makers combined with quality vineyards wins the day.
