Clos-Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2004, Domaine Pierre Amiot

Breaking news... the vendanges for the 2008 vintage on the Côte de Nuits will start as late as September 25th. That is 1 month later than in 2003 and 2 weeks later than the norm for the last 10 years. If there isn't more sunshine in September expect 2008to be a light vintage.

The Clos de la Roche 2004 from this domaine was below par. Thankfully this Clos Saint Denis is above par although it still lacks the "wow factor" one always looks for in a grand cru. Pleasing black cherry colour prepares one for a nose of dark stone fruits, brambles, raspberry leaves, pepper and oak spice. Dense and chunky cherry and plum fruit. Like a yummy mummy the body has added weight which adds to the attraction. Good length with a finish on almond and mint notes. This is worth keeping for another 3 years. Perfect companion with my fillet steak.
