Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Chaumées" 2005, Philippe Colin
Do I have a Chassagne addiction? Are there so many Colins in Chassagne one can not count them on one hand? Is Bernard Moreau better than Bernard Morey? Such are the mysteries of life. Back in 1998 I tasted at the domaine with some college friends and reversed our rented mini-van into the wall outside the cellar. Fond memories... This Chassagne has a burnished gold, peachy colour which points towards a ripe wine. The nose is an opulent peach, caramelized, galette des rois and a hint of musk. This is a hefty wine not elegant. Its characteristics of ripe peach, rounded, hot, apricot-fruit saturated with oak tannin interleaf overwhelm without impressing. Good but not fine. This won't last beyond 2009.
