Volnay 1er Cru "Les Mitans" 2006, Etienne de Montille

This lieu-dit is composed of two small strip vineyards below the village of Volnay. Opening nose very different from the Beaune from the same producer. Very Volnay characteristic violets, fresh herbs like rosemary and oregano, Japanese trefoil and dandelion. Yet not green herbs, rather succulent summer herbs. Weighty, ripe, dark berry fruit on the palate with medium to low tannin. The house style is based on leaving the wines in tank for longer to preserve the fresh fruit and this is evident. Very tasty indeed.
