We tasted the
Domaine Leflaive Puligny 2004 recently and found it impressive but young and throwing off its cloak of oak. How about a half-bottle of the Puligny 2001? The typical medium yellow colour shows significantly more depth than the more steely 2004. Initially the nose is potent but one dimensional: buttery, consistent, persistent. Becomes more nutty with hints of marzipan. The nose is savoury and lactic with no real fruit on offer. On the palate this Puligny delivers, it is weighty, rich, a little spciy (nutmeg), and rounded. Its a quality wine without impressing or exciting.
