Pouilly-Loché 2006, Domaine Cordier

Domaine Cordier produces a wide range of wines from the Maconnais region many of which are very tasty specimens. As the name suggests, Pouilly-Loché is a neighbouring appellation to Pouilly-Fuissé but is not as well known due to the tiny volume produced (1,910 hectolitres in 2005 compared to 41,766 hectolitres of Pouilly-Fuissé. This Loché announces its south Burgundian origins with a vibrant brassy yellow colour. In typical style the nose is immediately open on notes of honeydew melon, furry peach skin, then almond and marzipan. Not a huge amount of evolution which is unsuprising given the wine's youth. Real impact on the palate its rich, concentrated, almost syrupy with flavours of cinnamon, sugared dry pineapple, orange pith and honey roasted ham. The wine is delicious now but would benefit from 18 months maturing for a more complex bouquet. Perfect companion for tarte aux moules or a quenelle de brochet. This qualifies as Not Bad At All.
