Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Jarrons" 2005, Marinot-Verdun

This is the style of wine that the cognoscenti complain about because it is simple wine and doesn't express the terroir sufficiently. Produced by Marinot-Verdun a small negociant firm that sells from the Cave de Mazenay in the Hautes Cotes de Beaune with an offer of "grands vins a petits prix". They also sell "vin en vrac" at 95 euro cents per litre.

Certainly there is no wow factor but they have made a perfectly acceptable Savigny with a thick red colour, aromas of strawberry, cassis and marinated cherry. The nose is pleasant although a bit of a mish-mash and a tad too potent. On the palate medium acidity, lots of cassis and blackberry fruit, low tannins, rounded, soft and very drinkable now. Minimal aging potential.

Addendum. The next day however tells a different story. Two glasses of this grog the previous evening and the following day one has a nasty headache. Something unnatural must have been added to the brew. Avoid at all costs.
