Beaune 1er Cru "Clos de la Féguine" 2009, Jacques Prieur

Tasted at the Domaine Jacques Prieur in April 2012, the "Clos de la Féguine" is a lieu dit that one associates with similar terroir-concepts like "Riotte de la Fanny". Moving swiftly on, the domaine has just 0.27 hectares of their vineyard holdings in the Clos planted to chardonnay with 1.47 hectares planted to pinot noir. The vines are planted on a steep slope, facing south with a soil which combines glacial moraine, clay and limestone. The nose is saline, lemon, Brittany sea salt -- the calcaire comes out in spades. Nose evolves to white peach reflecting the warm 2009 vintage and south-facing terroir. Soft, light and peachy on the palate. Good length. A flavour of asperges blanches. Good touch of acidity and minerality. Enjoyable but a touch too ripe and fruit-driven for my palate. Scores 20-22 / 30 for the Beaune 1er Cru blanc appellation.
